Through the years, the Mercruiser people have tried many ignition systems from Delco, Mallory, Prestolite, Holley, Autolite, and Mercury Marine in house ignition

The in line 4c and 6c used Delco tune up kits for years then they changed to electronic ignition either made by delco or contracted by them for their in line engines.  When the ford V-8 engines came out in the seventies the friendly Mercruiser folks tried many different  ignition systems.

Autolite tune up kits, Mercury/Holley tune up kits, Mallory tune up kit, Prestolite tune up kits.  The people had many problems orderind points condedsers, and caps, and they were very confused by the points or contact sets. The main distinguishing things on the systems were the Distributor caps. The Mallory distributor cap was distingiuished by two square arms which pivot off of the base and flip up next to the cap, two small platesscrewed to the top of these arms held the cap down.

The Merc/holley tune up kit was notable because the plastic/rubber clips which screwed to the cap came off in your hand when the cap was removed. the Autolite was a snap down cap as was the prestolite kit. Our tune up kits for distributors with points or contact sets come with four parts Distributor cap rotor condenser and points.  These are linked to the boxes with a live link listed below the rotors.  A more extensive tune up kit
